Review: Dark Desires by Eve Silver

The Faerie Queen’s review I read Dark Desires as part of my challenge to read a different subgenre of romance each month, and the first month happened to be gothic romance, just in time for Halloween. I wasn’t entirely sure what “gothic romance” was going in, so I did some reading and basically got “old school mystery with a dark, dangerous, brooding hero”. Apparently, Jane Eyre falls into this category? Yeah, I didn’t know that either. Anyway, I chose Dark Desires for two reasons: It was a fairly recently published gothic romance, and I really wasn’t feeling a desire to read old school stuff. Partly because I wanted steaminess. Review: Drive Me Crazy by Tracy Wolff

The Faerie Queen’s review Drive Me Crazy started out a bit strange for me, but it quickly picked up after a few chapters. Before I get started, a few trigger warnings to mention: there is past child abuse, physical fighting and cheating in this one. At first, the interactions between Quinn and Elise felt awkward and forced, with the words claiming an intimacy and sizzle that didn’t come off the page. The author jumped right in and said that there should be something there, but we hadn’t had enough time to first get to know the characters. BUT THEN. It quickly escalated.
